A unique opportunity exists for two people to join our team.

We work to empower remote Aboriginal Australians and specialise in working cross-culturally with both mainstream populations and Aboriginal Australians. We draw from traditional and contemporary Indigenous culture to provide a bridge to deliver the knowledge and skills required by both sides to create effective strategies for developing Indigenous communities.

We offer a flexible and supportive working environment and are based in Nhulunbuy, in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.

Role 1: PROJECT ASSISTANT

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a hands on, computer literate individual to work in a small dynamic team assisting with the day to day operations of a culturally appropriate, online educational project for adults.

Part-time position approx 25-30 hours/week

You will be responsible for managing administration and assisting with some technical aspects of this project, including:

• Analysis of project analytics
• Researching and report writing
• Analysing and managing of risks
• Managing relationships with clients and stakeholders including Federal and State Government
• Promotional development of posters and all advertising material
• Recording of audio and audio engineering
• Video recording of educational videos in Yolŋu Matha (we are currently outsourcing video editing)
• Uploading of all educational material onto Djambatjmarram.com and youtube.com

From time to time, you may join our team on-the ground or at events, capturing content and providing technical support.

ROLE 2: PERSONAL ASSISTANT

 
 

 
 

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an efficient and flexible office assistant to join our small home-based team in Nhulunbuy.

Part-time position approx 15 hours/week

You will be responsible for day-today management of the office. This includes providing administrative and logistical assistance to the Director and other staff, both local and remote, to ensure the smooth running of Why Warriors. You will also be responsible for assisting the co-ordinating projects and preparing reports.
The successful applicant will use a wide variety of internal/external computer systems and platforms and needs to be comfortable with this technology.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

• Demonstrated experience in office administration and/or event management
• Good computer literacy essential, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word Press, and platforms such as TeamViewer and Google Hangouts. Ability to quickly learn new systems and programs essential
• High level of communication skills, both written and oral
• Experience liaising with a diverse range of stakeholders, government departments and corporate and community organizations
• Basic knowledge in finance and budget forecasting
• Ability to effectively prioritise workloads and work on tight deadlines
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work within a small team
• Commitment and ability to work with remote Indigenous people who are English-second language
• Ability to acquire knowledge of the roles and functions of Why Warriors Pty Ltd

Justine Speed

From 2001 Justine worked with Aboriginal Resource and Development Services (ARDS) in Nhulunbuy as Event Manager, before joining Why Warriors in 2010. She has worked alongside Richard Trudgen for nearly 20 years. She studied English at the University of QLD and also has qualifications in community work and counselling.
